Steps to take when Turning 65
Step 1 - Get Informed
Get informed on your rights, your responsibilities, and your options coming into Medicare. You would want to do this about 6-12 months before your 65th birthdate.
Step 2 - Apply for Medicare
You must apply for Medicare Part A and Part B through Social Security Website, visiting your local Social Security office, or by calling 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778). You can start your application as early as 3 months before your 65th birthday month.
If you are going into Medicare after turning 65 because you were still employed, you must apply for Medicare and you and your employer must complete Form CMS-L564 and submitted to Social Security
**Note: If you enroll outside the Initial Enrollment Period you may face penalties going into Medicare. Contact me for more information**
Step 3 - Determine your coverage
After enrolling into Medicare you can decide to stay with Original Medicare, choose a Medicare Advantage plan, or stay with Original Medicare with a supplement plan.
